About Us

The St John Paul II African Union Chaplaincy is a mission of the Church to the members and institutions of the African Union (AU). It has been entrusted to the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans) by the Catholic Archdiocese of Addis Ababa and is animated by a permanent Chaplain and his team.

The fundamental mission of the Chaplaincy is to ensure the presence of the Church at the AU and to reflect, in the light of the Gospel, on the life and activities of the AU in order to help it achieve its vision of “an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa, driven by its citizens and a dynamic force in the global arena.” (Agenda 2063).

AU CHAPLAINCY PROJECTS

The fundamental mission of the JNTT is to assist the Church in Africa in fulfilling her evangelizing mission, which consists in converting “solely through the divine power of the message she proclaims, both the personal and collective consciences of people, the activities in which they engage, and the lives and concrete milieu which are theirs.” (Saint Paul VI, Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii nuntiandi, 1975, n. 18).
