Formation

Our chaplaincy offers its members formation in various areas: Catechesis, Marriage Preparation, Scripture, Theology, Spirituality, Social Doctrine of the Church, and Language Courses

Retreats & Recollections

Every quarter and during the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent, a retreat is organized for members of the AU community in Ethiopia, preferably outside the city of Addis Ababa.

Confessions & Counselling

Community members who wish to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation can do so before or after the Holy Mass, during retreats, or on request.

The AU Chaplaincy also offers counselling sessions with priests and laypeople to anyone in need of psychological and spiritual help. Arrangements must be made with the Chaplain.

Ecumenical & Inter-Religious Dialogue

The AU Chaplaincy is at the forefront of dialogue with members of other Christian denominations and religions represented in the AU Commission. It works with other believers and people of goodwill to promote activities for harmonious coexistence among brothers and sisters in the wider AU family.

Charity Works

As far as possible, the AU Chaplaincy assists its members who have lost loved ones through the voluntary contributions of other community members. Charity is also extended to the poor and vulnerable in Addis Ababa and beyond. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, we collect both money and non-perishable items to share with the needy.

Our Mission

The African Union Chaplaincy Academy is a dynamic institution dedicated to fostering intellectual and spiritual growth within a diverse and inclusive community. It offers a wide range of online lectures and programs addressing critical global and societal issues, including languages, globalization, climate change, justice and peace, culture, and faith.

Through its curriculum, the academy emphasizes the importance of understanding cultural diversity, promoting sustainable development, and advancing global justice. Its teachings are deeply rooted in the principles of ethical leadership and spiritual guidance, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and interdisciplinary learning.

The academy is committed to equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to address contemporary challenges, while fostering values of compassion, respect, and harmony in service to humanity.

The fundamental mission of the JNTT is to assist the Church in Africa in fulfilling her evangelizing mission, which consists in converting “solely through the divine power of the message she proclaims, both the personal and collective consciences of people, the activities in which they engage, and the lives and concrete milieu which are theirs.” (Saint Paul VI, Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Evangelia Nuntiandi, 1975, n. 18).

As a laboratory of ideas and a source of proposals, the JNTT has the specific task of generating pan-African cultural, economic and political ideas that are both innovative and highly transformative.
